State Duma deputies passed at third reading a bill setting the minimum wage at 16,242 rubles per month from 1 January 2023.

The current minimum wage is 15,279 rubles. The planned increase is therefore 6.3%.

"We must understand that at every opportunity we need to keep doing everything possible to raise wages, resolve social issues and improve people's well-being," Vyacheslav Volodin said.

This will increase pay for approximately 3.5 million public-sector workers.

The law also proposes changing how the minimum wage is calculated for 2023 and 2024. The minimum wage will rise at an accelerated rate: its increase will depend on growth in the subsistence minimum for the working-age population across Russia and exceed that growth by three percentage points.

The amendments also remove median wages as an indicator used in calculating the minimum wage.
