Sick leave benefit will increase. Since 1 September 2021, sick leave benefit for caring for a child under eight is 100% of average earnings. The amount does not depend on the parent’s length of service or whether the child is treated in hospital or as an outpatient.
Obtaining sick leave. Any family member may obtain sick leave, but only someone entitled to a certificate of incapacity for work—that is, an employed person. Within the prescribed periods, sick leave to care for a child may be issued to family members in turn, but not simultaneously.
Available assistance:
- For a child under seven, up to 60 calendar days per year are paid;
- for children aged seven to fifteen: up to 15 calendar days per illness, but no more than 45 days a year in total;
- For an older child, up to seven calendar days per illness are paid, with a maximum of 30 days per year.
Sick leave payment periods are extended if a child has a serious illness.
How sick leave is generally paid. Temporary incapacity benefit depends on the length of insurance coverage. It is calculated using this formula:
Payment = total salary for 2 years / 730 days × number of sick-leave days × coefficient
The coefficient depends on service length:
- less than 5 years: 0.6;
- 5 to 8 years—0.8;
- more than 8 years: 1
Maximum amount. The benefit is calculated using average earnings over the previous 2 years. If you were ill in 2021, average earnings must be calculated for 2020 and 2019. Earnings taken into account may not exceed 912,000 rubles for 2020 and 865,000 rubles for 2019.
The minimum floor is the minimum wage. If sick-leave benefit for a full calendar month falls below it, temporary incapacity benefit is paid based on the minimum wage.
