NEW SCHOOL LAW TO PROTECT HEALTH AND PREVENT ACCIDENTS

Deputies unanimously adopted a law protecting children's health at school and preventing accidents.

1. First, teachers and other people may now provide first aid if they have the relevant training or skills. This is their right, not their obligation.

2. Secondly, a child will be allowed to take part in physical education only with a medical opinion. This will be issued following preventive medical examinations. The precaution reflects the fact that most school accidents occur during physical education lessons.

3. Third, educational institutions must ensure first aid is available to children during their stay. This applies to kindergartens as well as schools.
