Parliamentary hearings were recently held on legislative initiatives banning information that promotes non-traditional sexual relationships. Representatives of parent and expert communities, religious denominations and public organizations, as well as State Duma deputies, took part. ‘These laws will allow our families to live peacefully, without fearing for children who go to school or to see a film, or worrying about what a theatre performance will show, because today all this often carries destructive values,’ Vyacheslav Volodin stressed. During the hearings, the Speaker of the State Duma said that cross-party amendments banning LGBT propaganda could be submitted to the Duma and considered at first reading the following week. Vyacheslav Volodin expressed the hope that, if supported by deputies and then senators, the amendments would reach the President of the Russian Federation for signature in November.
