International Speech Therapist’s Day celebrates specialists who help people improve speech and communication skills.
International Speech Therapist Day, also celebrated in Russia, is 14 November, falling on a Thursday in 2024.
Speech Therapist's Day not included among state holidays, so no day off is provided. This date is also not officially approved in our country: it is absent from list commemorative days and professional holidays.
A speech therapist is an educator specializing in speech disorders and ways to address them. Essentially, they are a coach who identifies speech difficulties and works with clients to overcome them.
The profession requires higher education in special-needs pedagogy. Today, faculties of special education train:
- speech teachers and speech therapists specialising in special education;
- speech therapists and psychologists;
- teachers of deaf and hard-of-hearing children;
- Special educators working with children with intellectual developmental delays.
- psychologists and social educators.
These specialists are most often consulted for preschool children. Speech therapists can help a child begin speaking, learn particular sounds or correct pronunciation, and overcome stuttering. School speech therapists usually work with children who have difficulties with reading and spelling.
