The law was passed by the State Duma.
An estate legally includes both the deceased person’s property and debts. Heirs are liable for these debts in proportion to their inheritance share. Previously there was no procedure for notifying them of the debts.
The proposal gives a notary three working days to obtain information about the deceased's outstanding loans and microloans, and another three days to inform the heirs.
This will allow heirs to compare the debt with the value of inherited property and make an informed decision about accepting the inheritance.
