If your school demands money
School management and teachers may not demand or even request any financial support for school maintenance or the educational process. This includes, for example, paying for repairs, buying furniture or contributing towards security. Under Article 9 of the Law on Education, responsibility for maintaining schools rests entirely with municipalities and state authorities.
Who should purchase textbooks?
Schoolchildren are provided free textbooks, teaching aids and educational-methodological materials for the duration of education "within federal state educational standards and educational standards" (Article 35 of the Law on Education).
All materials beyond these standards—optional and supplementary—are a voluntary choice for parents and students, paid for by them or by the school if the school makes that decision.
Which school services may be charged for?
Only services beyond federal state educational standards may be charged for: those provided voluntarily at the choice of students and their parents. These may include additional lessons or advanced study of subjects.
